Fitness Tests - Basic Components of Fitness

An example of a fitness test would be the Physique Factors Test (PFT), which measures upper body muscular power as well as lower body agility and balance. A participant's BMI is also used along with PFT scores to determine fitness level. All of these tests along with others such as resting heart rate, perceived exertion, oxygen consumption and so forth are used to create a fitness report that the participant will be required to complete prior to entering into a fitness class or fitness program.

Many factors contribute to the development of functional fitness. These include the genetic characteristics of an individual, their activity level, the amount of exercise they perform and their general health. Some areas of the muscle, ligament, and joints may also be affected by these same factors. It is these changes that need to be addressed in order to correct the participant's functional fitness.
